CURATED CONVERSATIONS AND SPECIALIZED CURRICULUMS
The Black Birth Institute creates intentional learning experiences that move beyond information-sharing and into meaningful transformation. Our curated conversations and specialized curriculums are designed to help organizations, communities, and professionals engage deeply with the realities of Black maternal health, birth equity, reproductive justice, and culturally responsive care.
Through customized workshops, facilitated dialogues, training series, and curriculum development, we create spaces where participants can learn, reflect, challenge assumptions, and apply practical strategies that improve maternal health support. Each curriculum is thoughtfully developed to meet the needs of the audience—whether serving birth workers, healthcare teams, community organizations, educators, policymakers, or family support professionals.
Our approach blends evidence-based education, lived experience, storytelling, cultural context, and actionable tools. From doula training and perinatal mental health to bereavement care, lactation support, advocacy, trauma-informed practice, and community-based maternal health education, we design content that is relevant, engaging, and rooted in the communities most impacted.
At The Black Birth Institute, every conversation is purposeful, every curriculum is strategic, and every learning experience is built to equip people with the knowledge, language, and confidence to support Black mothers, babies, and families with dignity and excellence.
EVIDENCE-BASED. CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE. COMMUNITY-CENTERED.
At The Black Birth Institute, our work is grounded in research, shaped by lived experience, and rooted in the communities we serve. We believe Black mothers, babies, and families deserve care that is not only informed by evidence, but also honors culture, identity, history, and voice.
Our trainings prepare doulas, birth workers, organizations, and community partners to deliver support that is practical, compassionate, and equity-centered. Through education, advocacy, workforce development, and culturally responsive practice, we equip birth workers to improve outcomes and strengthen systems of care.
We do not believe in one-size-fits-all maternal health solutions. We build programs that reflect the realities of Black families, address barriers in healthcare, and create pathways for dignity, safety, and informed support across pregnancy, birth, postpartum, lactation, bereavement, and reproductive health.
Our approach is simple: combine knowledge with compassion, center the community, and train birth workers to support families with excellence.
DRIVING INFORMED MATERNAL HEALTH SUPPORT
Cultivating Knowledge and Awareness Through Dialogue
The Black Birth Institute is committed to advancing maternal health through expertly designed training, curriculum development, speaking engagements, and organizational education. Led by Xaviera Bell, our work equips agencies, small businesses, community partners, and maternal health organizations with practical, culturally responsive tools to expand their outreach, strengthen their impact, and better support birthing families.
Through polished presentations, customized learning experiences, and community-centered engagement, we educate key audiences on the realities of Black maternal health and the strategies needed to improve outcomes. Our goal is to transform knowledge into action—helping organizations build informed, compassionate, and effective systems of maternal health support.
