The Black Birth Institute was created from a deep commitment to protect, educate, and empower Black mothers, babies, families, and the birth workers who serve them.

Our story begins with the recognition that Black maternal and infant health disparities are not isolated outcomes. They are the result of generations of systemic inequity, medical racism, underinvestment, fragmented care, and the silencing of Black women’s voices in reproductive and maternal healthcare. Too often, Black mothers are dismissed when they speak, unsupported when they advocate, and left to navigate pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, loss, and motherhood without the culturally responsive care they deserve.

The Black Birth Institute exists to change that.

We are an education, certification, advocacy, and workforce development institution built to strengthen the maternal health ecosystem from the inside out. We train doulas, birth workers, community health workers, advocates, providers, and community leaders to serve families through evidence-based education, culturally responsive practice, trauma-informed care, and birth justice principles.

At the heart of our work is a belief that Black families deserve more than survival. They deserve dignity, safety, informed care, emotional support, and systems that honor their humanity.
